The New Camillus Eagle Scout Knives: Made by Eagle Scouts for Every Adventurer

The launch of the Camillus Eagle Scout Knife collection is pretty darned exciting! Not only are these knives display-worthy, they are also made to be used daily.

The Scouting America and Camillus have a powerful history, including the fact that Camillus was one of the first manufacturers of Scouting America knives. I think one of my all-time favorite things about Camillus is that they have been scrappy, innovative, and completely dedicated to being a leader in the knife industry.

After noticing a gap in the knife category geared toward Eagle Scouts, Scouting America’s Mike Gerard (Eagle Scout and former Army Ranger) decided to do something about it. He got together with the Camillus team and they talked through everything that earning their Eagle Scout rank taught them about life and how that contributed to his elite military experience. From the extensive outdoor and military experience of the Eagle Scouts that helped to design this knife, they ended up with a collection of knives that reflects the highest levels of Scouting. They used the Scout Oath and Law, as well as the Scout Motto to create knives that would serve every adventurer.

When I hear that someone has earned the Eagle Scout rank, my level of respect for them increases because I know that they have the perseverance to get things done (even when it is not easy), the aptitude to accomplish any goal, and the adaptability to move from one job to another without a missed step. That is what these knives are designed to do, too. It is neat, because from the beginning concept through the end result, they have the Oath, Law, and Motto woven into each part of the process. The teams from both Camillus and Scouting America made sure that every single part and piece chosen had a solid reason behind it, and that everything could be traced back to those guiding values. I had the opportunity to chat with Mike about the conception of these knives, and he gave me a rundown on some of the ideas that were the driving force in creating them.

Duty to Country. They are made in the USA from start to finish. Every single piece of these knives is sourced from the United States. Even the leather sheaths are made using cow hide from Oklahoma and the walnut used to make the display boxes are made using wood from Virginia!

A Scout is trustworthy. These knives are made to hang with you every single day. They were designed to be used, and to do more than just sit on a shelf somewhere as a memento. The Scouting America and Camillus teams wanted this tool to be a part of making memories every single day. That way, when they get passed to the next generation, they are loaded with the memories of laughs and amazing times spent around a campfire or working through projects.

A Scout is thrifty. Mike and Jared peeled back the layers of “extras” and built quality, classic designs made from durable and lasting materials. They worked with their teams to make sure that these knives give you the best value for your money.

A Scout is loyal. After talking to the teams that created this series of knives, it was obvious the level of dedication to not just manufacturing a solid knife, but also the dedication to the partnership between the teams. They worked to make something that they were excited to say, “YES! We did this together and we carry these knives because we LOVE them.”

Be prepared. The Scout motto really applies to this knife set. They are made to be easy to clean and sharpen, so they are ready for every adventure and can be used for anything. We had a birthday party to go to this past weekend, and as is typical for us, we stopped on the way to the party to grab a gift and wrapping supplies. After getting back to the car, I realized I had forgotten scissors to cut the ribbon for the bow on the bag. Thankfully, I had my knife on hand and made quick work of the bow!

I may not be an Eagle Scout, but you can bet that I am going to snag one of these and give them as gifts this year for the holidays. I love gifts that are both incredibly meaningful and that actually have a solid function and daily purpose. Cheers to getting outdoors and to a tool that will keep your adventures up and running!
