Fun (and Different) Scout Family Halloween Activities

There are the usual activities that happen for Halloween like pumpkin carving and pumpkin painting (the MOST fun!), but what about something new and different? I wanted some fun ideas that could be incorporated into a party or a craft afternoon/evening. I got to hunting around, and here are a few activities that I came up with!

  1. Build a mini, spooky Halloween cornhole kit! With the weather as gorgeous as it is right now, this is the perfect way to celebrate getting outside and playing some games that you get to make. Check out this how-to on making tabletop cornhole boards that I found from Black and Decker! To change it up and make it seasonal, keep colors neutral and you can swap out bean bags according to season (hint, hint, this would be fun to pull out into the living room for family competitions during the holidays as well).
  2. Make moccasins! One of the best things about cooler weather is getting to wear cozy shoes, socks and slippers all the time. Grab a moccasin-making kit and sit down as a family to create your new favorite house shoes! moccasin making
  3. Tie-Dye a Halloween t-shirt. Check out this fun how-to from Scout Life Magazine that gives you all the steps to creating your very own tie-dye creation. I love this one because just like the candy below, you can change out the colors and make this a seasonal happening!.
  4. Make Halloween candy. I grew up with my grandmother making some of my favorite candy in the whole world. She always stored it in tins (where does one even buy those? You know – the ones with the seasonal pictures on the lids?). It can be adapted for any holiday and it is so easy to make!
Halloween candy
  • Ingredients:
    • 3.5 cups white chocolate
    • 3 cups Chex cereal
    • 1.5 cups pretzels
    • 1 cup Halloween/fall-colored M&M’s
    • OPTIONAL: peanuts (exclude for nut allergies) – I did not include in this batch
  • Melt the white chocolate (keep the heat low and stir frequently)
  • Break up pretzels into small chunks (or use mini pretzels)
  • Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl
  • Pour the white chocolate into the bowl of dry ingredients and gently fold
  • Pour the mixture onto a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and flatten until even
  • Put in freezer for 1 hour or until hard
  • Break into pieces and bag individually for fun Halloween party goody bags (or in a large bowl for the family)!
